The Sugar Coffin
The Sugar Coffin revolves around a series of objects and correspondence between avant-guard filmmaker Kenneth Anger and film actress Gloria Swanson.
Specifically, the exhibition investigates hate-mail sent by Anger to Swanson in the 1980s that is now housed in Swanson’s archival collection at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Texas.
As part of Larsen’s larger practice, the exhibition explores communities influenced by film and fandom, and investigates the way queer populations project, co-opt, and salvage the materials surrounding actresses, divas, and their auras.
